Patchwork Santa Ornament

I am submitting some photos of a design called Patchwork Santa from Teri Sullivan of SewTerific that I did up as stand-alone ornaments in various color combos. You can hang these Santas from the area that is blank near the pompom of Santa’s hat.

This was my own idea and I feel these come out as a rather unique item. Teri is aware that I have done these.

This is sewn with the same thread bobbin and top on organza or other sheer fabric, double thickness, with a background of opaque water soluble stabilizer in the hoop. When done, excess stabilizer is cut away, then the piece is hand washed to dissolve away the excess remaining stabilizer, and then it is carefully trimmed. I did overstitch some areas–my choice. I wanted the ribbon area, etc., sturdy enough to hold up to being cut out all around it.

Here is the ornament sewn onto the organza–it is NOT trimmed yet!
This example is all polyester threads, but other examples have some twister tweed rayons or metallics in them.

Here is the ornament after trimming it:

Here is the ornament showing how it can be hung by simply threading a ribbon through the open spot near Santa’s pompom:

Here is a different color combination using some twister tweed thread and some metallic thread plus polyester threads:

Here is still another color combination mixing up threads again with some twister tweed rayon, some metallic, and some polyester ones:

The patchwork Santa is truly a work of art. The stitching is a work of art. The colors used really make the Santa outstanding. Anyone who is lucky enough to receive one of these is very fortunate. It is certainly a labor of love on the part of the person who gives this to someone!

Linda, I made the name of the designs into links for all of the projects - so if you go back to the very top,
Patchwork Santa from Teri Sullivan of SewTerific is a link to the design. :)
